member of the beloved legend Irish music group,
The Carlton Showband has passed away on Thursday,
May 2, 2024 at age 78 of a massive stroke. He was a band member for
20 years (1976-1996).
He originally hailed from Sion Mills, County Tyrone, Northern
Ireland and began his musical journey with a band called The Cadets. Immigration led him to Canada,
where he found his place with the Carlton Showband. He joined the band in 1976.The Carlton Showband, formed
in Brampton, Ontario in 1963 was a mainstay in the Canadian music scene, particularly in Newfoundland,
a place thats holds the Carlton Showband in high regard. Gregory even spent some time living in NL before eventually
returning to Toronto.He was a regular performer on the National TV Show,
Pig & Whistle for many years. Gregory's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who cherished
the Carlton Showband's music.His time with the band, particularly during frequent
visits to NL, is a testament to the enduring legacy of the Carlton Showband in Canada.
He become a great singer and as a point of Interest, the band with Gregory toured Northern Ireland just a few years ago.
On March 15, 2024 in Brampton, Ontario, the Band received a star on Brampton's Music Walk of Fame
and Gregory was there for the event and even sang solo to perfection.
