November 23, 2023 with the news >that PEI's Country Music Legend,
Singer/Songwriter/Mandolin Player, Roy MacCaull passed away at
age 86.
Roy was known by many through his 10 years on Community
Showcase on PEI and many years of performing at local venues.
Since moving to PEI from Toronto in 1996, he spent much of his time
writing, recording and performing his songs and encouraging other
musicians to fulfill their own musical pursuits.
MacCaull recorded his own albums and contributed to 28 other
albums with fellow band members. All the while, he was holding down
a full-time job with Canada Post for over 30 years, where he was
affectionately known as (The Singing Postman).
One of his songs, SHORES OF PEI, was recorded by Country Artist
George Hamilton lV. While living in Scarborough, Ontario, he
performed with such stars as Mac Wiseman, Tex Ritter, Waylon
Jennings, Carroll Baker, Hank Snow and Kitty Wells.
In Ellerslie, PEI he has had own recording studio, West Manor
Productions continuing to promote young artists.
Roy wrote SHORES OF PEI in 1973 to commemorate the Centennial
of the Island joining Confederation. He released a cassette titled,
CRADLE IN THE WAVES with 14 songs and is dedicated to PEI.
Roy is resting at the Tyne Valley Funeral-Chapel with visting hours
on Monday, Nov 27- 4-7 pm with Funeral on Tuesday Nov 28 in the
chapel at 11 am. Interment to follow in the Floral Hills Memorial
Gardens Cemetery in Hunter River, PEI
