Jimmy Martin Passes Away October 13, 2011
A Proud Newfoundland Folk Singer

Jimmy Martin, a Folk Music Icon in Scarborough, Ontario, with roots in Newfoundland, passed away in Thursday, October 13/11 at the Craiglea Nursing Home in Scarborough. Jimmy was known for his gifted voice who was a fixture at Ozzie Branscombe's Country Music Store for a number of years on The Danforth in Toronto. Jimmy would always show up at the store every Saturday afternoon for a number of years and perform as well join the other artists in a giant music jam. Many oldtime traditional country music fans always showed up every Saturday, to listen to the great musicial jam, before Ozzie closed his store August 30, 2003.

Over the years, Jimmy released several Casettes and for a number of years, and he would always tour Atlantic Canada selling his casettes out of the trunk of his car. Jimmy had 5 published CD's including a popular CD entitled, I Dream of My Home in Newfoundland, which was a favourite with his followers. Jimmy was at his best on this CD and one particular song entitled, BLOW OUT THE LAMP, was a hit among his fans, including Atlantic Seabreeze. Bruce Roberts had a very popular East Coast music radio show in Toronto some years ago, and always featured Jimmy on his show. The song Blow Out The Lamp was a popular request on the show.

Jimmy always had a smile on his face, and enjoyed performing at many events in Toronto for many years. He was a proud Newfoundlander and worked as a structural ironworker for Local 721 for over 50 years. He will be sadly missed by his son Glenn and daughter Debbie Kahlmeier.

Friends may call at Pine Hill Cemetery & Visitation Center, 625 Birchmount Rd (North of St Clair), Scarborough on Saturday, October 22 at 12 noon with Memorial Service to follow at 1 pm.
