The Island’s only privately owned and operated performance venue and movie theatre, Harmony House Theatre, is set to open its doors on Friday, July 4th. The first show of a full summer line-up will feature co-owner, Kris Taylor for the opening celebration and launch of his third CD, “better left said”. Taylor will be joined on stage by various special family guests, including his wife, Melanie, the venue’s co-owner and Artistic Director. A second show on Saturday, July 5th has been added to meet demand.

'We're getting pretty excited now that the opening night is so close!', says Melanie. 'After a long, cold winter of renovating and keeping a really demanding schedule, it's nice to see that infamous light at the end of the tunnel. Our dream is truly being realized. We can't wait.

Harmony House Theatre is centrally located on Route 2, between Charlottetown and Summerside in the community of Hunter River. Originally constructed as a church in 1846, the Taylor’s undertook a year of renovations, completely transforming the space into a unique, rustic yet modern, comfortable, 140-seat venue. It is equipped with a professional sound and lighting system, large screen and movie projector, sloped theatre seating, air conditioning, reception area and concession stand, and is also wheel-chair friendly.

“It is now the perfect setting for an up close and personal, high-quality performance,” says Melanie. “It actually gives you the feeling that you’re in that person’s living room. It's very warm and 'homey'.

Aside from the opening shows, this summer’s line-up also includes Howie MacDonald with Brenda Stubbert and Molly Rankin, Mike Pendergast’s Children’s Show, Hypnotist Ian Stewart, 4/4 The Show Barbershop Quartet, Catherine MacLellan with Meaghan Blanchard, Richard Wood, Bruce Guthro, Cateran, Tim Chaisson, Matt Minglewood and Hedgerow. Two Songwriter’s Circles are also scheduled and will feature some more of the Island’s well-known songsmiths. Island Group, “Mulligan Stew”, featuring Kendall Docherty, Sheila FitzPatrick and John Webster, will perform each Wednesday evening at 7:30 throughout July and August. Movies are also set to begin showing in August.

Tickets are available now for all shows by calling the theatre at 964-2255, or visiting the website at www.harmonyhousetheatre.com.
