By John Gavin, Wednesday, April 21, 2010

Tony Oxford, singer/songwiter and retired from school administration, hails from Cox's ASTonyOxfordCDCovRubicon.jpg Cove, Newfoundland has just released a new CD in April 2006 entitled, RUBICON. Rubicon means , the point of no return. Tony was inspired to write this unbelievable CD from world events happening throughout the world. Having followed these events for a number of years, he decided to write about them and put them in song. His concern for the loss of innocent lives in armed conflict became more troubling with each invasion, especially when perpetuated by western powers against nations which appeared to have limited defence resources.

The invasion of Iraq in 2003, the second in 12 years, resulted in a staggering loss of civilian life and terrible living conditions for the people of Iraq. In an effort to do his little thing to protest the death, suffering and lack of human rights for so many innocent, voiceless and helpless people, Tony began to write songs for this CD, referring to the point of no return. One of his objectives was to emphasize the danger of preemptive strikes and the global breakdown in international law.

The CD contains 12 songs, with each song telling a story about each event. His writings wanted to personalize the horrors of carpet bombing, especially for children. In the midst of all the scary features of the planet, he also wanted to celebrate the hope Canadian peacekeepers bring to so many hopeless people around the world and celebrate the superpower of public opinion as the planet's best opinion towards peace.

Here are the song titles: The Least That I Can Do-Money Talk-Without A Trace-The Club-Bullies-Life Goes On-Children of The Other World-The Barker-Rubicon-Broken-Third World Breakdown-Keepers (Ode To A Canadian Soldier) and Superpower. Tony wrote all powerful songs on this incredible CD. Without a doubt, the music and songs on this CD will make people stop and think whats happening in our world.

Musicians who helped Tony on this CD are: Louis McDonald, rhythm guitar, electric guitar, classical guitar, bass, keyboard, synthesizer-Mike McDonald, rhythm guitar, electric guitar, bass, strumstick, sitar, percussion, drums, harmonica-Billy Sutton, rhythm guitar, electric guitar, tenor guitar, bass, mandolin, mandola, bouzouki, fiddle, accordion, percussion. Additional vocals on the song SUPERPOWER by: Louis, Mike Billy Janet Randell and Joan Oxford.

The song, Superpower is the most touching and powerful song to come along in a long while and when this song is heard by the population, it will hopefully become the most inspirational song for peace throughtout the world. Atlantic Seabreeze gives this album a five star plus rating in its rating listings. To get more information regarding Tony and his music, refer to Tony's website, address posted above.
