Stompin' Tom Commemoration Project unveiled

An unbelievable event took place in Skinner's Pond, PEI on Monday, August 3, 2015 on the former grounds of the late Stompin' Tom Connors. The 10 acres site is now owned by the Tignish Initatives Organization.

The afternoon was filled with Stompin' Tom's music, impersonators and Tom's stories. Hundreds of people attended this outstanding event where the plans of the property was unveiled. Food and drinks were plentyiful for all to enjoy.

The center will consist a 4000 sq. ft. cultural center which will contain a cafe, shops and entertainment with cabaret style seating for 100-120 people. The school house and the old homestead where Tom was brought up will be completely renovated. The spectacular grounds will be landscaped with a momunent, trees, flowers, lighting and ample parking.

Besides all of this construction, an existing pond on the property will also be highlited, in accordance with Tom's wishes, a bridge will be constructed over the pond, leading to a picnic area where visitors will relax, eat and enjoy the scenery.

Lena Connors, Tom's wife was in attendance as well as Gail Shea, Egmond MP for PEI and PEI Premier Wade MacLauchlan. This day certainly will be remembered as people will look forward to July 1, 2016, the grand opening. Construction will begin shortly.
